Pressure Swing Adsorption systems are designed for the recovery and the purification of Hydrogen from different hydrogen rich gases coming from coal burning, methanol reforming or various refinery or petrochemical off gases.

The PSA Technology applies the principle of physically binding the impurities contained in the hydrogen -rich gases by individually selected adsorbent materials. Since the binding forces for such impurities depends on the pressure, The PSA operates on an alternating cycle of adsorption at high pressures and desorption at low pressures.

The process is defined by four main steps, which are called Adsorption, Desorption, Purging & Re-pressurisation and controlled by microprocessor PLC.


ADSORPTION
The feed Syn gas enters from the bottom of the adsorber tower at high pressure, the impurities are adsorbed by special grade molecular sieves and high purity hydrogen leaves from the top of adsorber. Once one adsorber bed gets saturated the cycle switch over to regenerated adsorbent tower automatically and saturated bed exhausted to atmosphere. The automatic switch over of the adsorbent beds ensured continuous flow of hydrogen.


DESORPTION
The regeneration of the adsorbent is done in several pressure reduction steps. First hydrogen-rich gas is used for re-pressurization and purging those adsorbers that are in different stages of regeneration. By further depressurization the adsorbed impurities are released and fed to a vent through a flame arrestor in the atmosphere.


PURGING
Purging is required to re-generate the saturated adsorbents at very low pressure. Hydrogen -rich gas is used during Purging to saturated towers.


REPRESSURIZATION
It is required to avoid sudden surge in PSA towers. The pressure of the purged adsorber is stepwise increased to the required adsorption pressure by several pressure equalizations with other adsorbers and finally recycled by pure hydrogen.

Pre-treated water is fed into the lye tank in which the lye is prepared and sent to the electrolyser. In the electrolyser, water is split into hydrogen and oxygen gas using electric energy. Hydrogen gas is evolved at the cathode side of a cell and exits through perforations at the cathode side separator plate towards the hydrogen manifold channels.

Hydrogen and oxygen gas then enters the hydrogen separator and oxygen separator respectively, where the lye is separated from the gases and recycled back into the electrolyser via the lye pump. The hydrogen gas is then fed to the Temperature Swing Adsorption unit for further purification while oxygen is vented out as a by-product or can be upgraded and used if required.

This is the cheapest method to produce Hydrogen gas for various industrial uses. In this system, Hydrogen gas is produced by dissociation of commercial Ammonia(NH3) . The dissociation of Ammonia gas take place at a temperature of 875 - 920°C in presence of Nickel Catalyst. Hydrogen and Nitrogen are generated in a cost effective way in a volume ratio of 3 : 1 or in a weight ratio of 14 : 3.


Cracking of ammonia is endothermic process in presence of Nickel Catalyst completes the reaction at around 875 to 900OC. Ammonia is passed through tubular retort filled with Nickel catalyst. The retort is fitted in an electrically heated furnace, which supplies the heat of reaction.


 


The NH3 is coming from bottles or from an ammonia tank. The ammonia gas is pre-heated in a heat exchanger and vaporizer and then cracked in the main furnace unit. As a result of complete dissociation into hydrogen and nitrogen, very little undissociated ammonia remains and the dew point temperature of the resulting gas is very low (below -30°C).

Hydrogen gas Purity :-
It produced standard cracked gas mixture in a ratio of 75% H2 + 25% N2. It can be further purified up to 99% hydrogen by gas purifiers in downstream depends on customer requirement.

Cracked gas Pressure :-
Cracked gas can be generate at 4.5 to 5.0 Kg/cm2 g pressure by our generator directly without any booster. We also offer integrated booster on demand of customer for further boost the cracked gas.

Dew Point :-
We design our system to deliver dry gas up to (-) 40 to (-) 80°C on demand and requirement of customer. We offer online measuring instrument to measure dryness of gas.
